Karin Weber Gallery introduces Andrea Bender from Germany for her first solo exhibition in Hong Kong from 11st December 2013 to 11st January 2014. The paintings by Andrea Bender contain much sarcasm and irony into the abyss of civil society. Many of them are derived from the novel ‘Alice In Wonderland’. Glamorous baroque settings are filled with strangely androgynous and distorted creatures which indicate that the idyll and beauty of the splendid surroundings might be deceiving.

“A rich and heavy painting style is interspersed with the transparency of watercolours, in which the bodies are helplessly pervaded and disintegrated. Bender’s drawing techniques battle for dominance against pure, traditional painting” – Dr. Reinhard Spieler, Director, Museum Franz Gertsch, Germany.

“Bender’s painting deeply penetrates the psychological portrayal of human beings and those layers far beyond psychology. She shows the essential necessity of her work and also demonstrates her superior mastery” – Dieter Krieg, German artist 1937-2005.
