Artist: Carlos Aguirre
A delicate but powerful balance between conceptual exploration and elegant visual forms
The exhibition showcases, for the first time in Asia, the works of Carlos Aguirre, one of the precursors of conceptual art in Mexico.
Through the use of negative space, Aguirre generates expansive landscapes. The seemingly “empty spaces” develop from the manipulation of line and colour and from almost incidental observations of details in the urban scenery. The works also coincide with the artist core project: language. After years devoted to the reinterpretation of everyday language, exploring and evidencing its ambiguities, words, phrases, and euphemisms appear unassumingly within his landscapes.
Outside the Lines brings together text and form, positive and negative space, order and chaos. The result is a delicate but powerful balance between conceptual exploration and elegant visual forms.
