Yin Xin
Yin Xin was born in Kashgar, a remote Muslim town in Turkistan in Western China in 1959 and his family migrated to the Mongolian border during the Cultural Revolution in political exile. His exposure at an early age to different religions and cultures was his first introduction to art and had influenced him as a child. Finding it difficult to adjust to the rigid teaching in school in China, Yin Xin left China in 1988 to study at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Australia and in 1991, started travelling around Europe and Asia in pursuit of art. In 1994, he eventually settled in Paris where he felt he could freely be an artist.

Yin Xin uses western techniques to paint the many facets of China, and one of his series "Nostalgia" focuses on the Modern Period of China. He likes to capture the colonial period and the old-fashioned style of Shanghai and Macau using his own feelings and perspective of the Chinese in that era and a muted palette that is reminiscent of photographs. His work is a fusion of east meets west, sometimes with the play of light similar to the works of Georges de La Tour.
